Majahual
 |
Majahual is a traditional fishing village
on the Costa Maya with a few rustic seafood restaurants, about to become the best
bet for a Caribbean getaway - au natural.
The town of Majahual now has several small hotels, and many restaurants that
specialize in seafood. There are several markets where you can purchase fresh
produce, and other groceries.
The cruise ship pier is located a mile to the north and there are more restaurants
and stores located there as well.

| There
is an airport, a dock and some smallish hotel and bungalow developments
on the beach. The access roads in and around Majahual are being finished and will
link the village to other beaches and sites targeted for development such as Rio
Indio, Placer, Xcalak, Uvero, and Punta Pulticub. The Costa Maya highway will
eventually stretch north to Punta Herrero, a fishing village on the shores of
Espiritu Santo Bay, in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. Majahual's palm-lined
beaches and crystal clear waters were made for sunning, bathing and snorkeling.
Fishermen will be happy too. Coastal lagoons are rich in tarpon and snook, and
many of the hotels offer sport fishing for marlin and sailfish. In addition, Majahual
has long been the place from which divers and sightseers embark for Chinchorro
Bank; the Caribbean's largest atoll located 18 miles offshore. |

The coast to the north and south of Majahual
is lined with beautiful white beaches on small turquoise bays. Off the coast there
is the Meso American reef, the second largest barrier reef on the planet. The
coral, sponges, and fish here are spectacular. For the adventurous there are even
small Mayan ruins on this coast to investigate and possibly even some to discover.
With 100 miles of coastline on the Costa Maya you will never run out of new places
to explore.
